PROJECTS: End Table Coffee Table
Comments: The request came for a pair of tables for my customer's living room in an Oriental style, to complement the handwoven rug she had brought home from Nepal many years ago.
This design resulted from a visit with her to the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, and their exhibit of antique Chinese furniture. There we studied the styles and features of several different pieces, and incorporated many of the distinguishing details into this coffee table and end table.
The coffee table has a beveled-glass top that allows the heirloom rug underneath to be seen.
We chose Bubinga wood as an economical alternative to Rosewood, which is traditionally used in much Asian furniture, but is nowadays more rare.
Bubinga is very dense wood, and shines with a simple wax finish.
